GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The GEM-PRINT Parallel Printer Interface is a bus mounted device which allows the Gemini series control panels to be connected to a parallel printer for the purpose of recording system activity. GEM-PRINT is compatible with following control panels:
• GEM-P816 (ver. 9A or greater)
• GEM-P1632 (ver. 9A or greater)
• GEM-P1664 (ver. 1 or greater)
• GEM-P3200 (ver. 20 or greater)
• GEM-P9600 (ver. 20 or greater)
• GEM-X255 (GEM-PRINT version 2 or greater)
When installed on a control panel which has been programmed via PCD-Windows v.5.0 (or greater), the GEMPRINT will create reports using the same custom User, Area and Zone descriptions which have been entered into the downloader (see PROGRAMMING). The GEM-PRINT provides signal and ground isolation between the control panel and the printer and will protect the control panel from shorts, transients and surges which may emanate from the printer or the associated cabling.
Input Power: 89 mA (max.) @13.8 VDC (supplied by control panel connections).
Note: Reduce available panel combined auxiliary current by 89 mA. Dimensions: 1½" x 7" x 4¾" (H x W x D)
MAXIMUM WIRE LENGTH
The GEM-PRINT may be mounted on the control panel bus up to 1000 feet from the control panel. The Parallel Printer must be mounted with 20 feet of the GEM-PRINT module.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
The following system hardware is required:
• Compatible Gemini Control Panel
• Standard PC Printer Cable (DB25 to 36 pin Centronics)
• Parallel Printer - Dot Matrix printer preferred.
• NOT compatible with "Win Printers" or Laser Jet / Ink Jet printers requiring a Windows-based operating system.
MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS
Mount the GEM-PRINT to flat surface with two 1-inch number 8 screws in mounting ears on either side of case.
• Connect the GEM-PRINT terminals 1-4 to the control panel bus as per the wiring diagram.
• Connect the Parallel Printer to the GEM-PRINT using Standard PC Printer Cable (DB25 to 36 pin Centronics). OPERATION
The GEM-PRINT is fully automatic except for paper changes. Push Button SW3 (inside box) for paper alignment and Form Feed functions. JP1 must have shunt connector across Pin 1 (See table below). Programmable Printer Supervisory: The Control Panel can supervise the printer and cause an E27-00 Printer Supervisory System Trouble under the following conditions:
• The Printer fails to respond to a print request
• An idle Printer fails to respond to a poll within 30 minutes
• The Printer is out of paper
NOTE: To disable Printer Supervisory, see chart below.
